Emotional Investments

What if you looked at thoughts and emotions as something other than free? What if you had to invest a form of currency for the quality of your mental or emotional state? If you choose to invest in uplifting, positive thoughts, you get a positive return on your investment, you actually get more back than you give…whereas depressing, self-limiting thoughts bring no return and become an outward drain.

The price we pay for the way we think and feel is not in dollars, but in vital energy. We have all felt the positive physical return that comes when we invest our energy and emotions in thoughts of love, contentment and gratitude. We are also very familiar with the heavy drain that accompanies worry, hatred, anger and self-lothing. We do pay, one way or the other, for our attitudes and beliefs. Think of it as energetic backing that comes with maintaining your state of mind and the emotional response.

Next time you come up with a worry, ask yourself, is this worth the energetic expense. To what extent are you willing to pay for holding onto a grudge, or investing in the cost of anger. And, how will you restore that energy, as your physical reserves deplete faster than they can be replaced. Start seeing the value of your thoughts and emotions in terms of personal investment, while making a conscious choice in what you are willing to finance.

Acting on a Whim

It is amazing how acting on a whim can put a whole new set of options into action. Sometimes the simplest acts, that come out of the blue, can be the spark that comes around to change your life, or someone elses. The book, Invisible Acts Of Power, by best-selling Author Caroline Myss, calls it channeling grace. Next time you sense that internal voice, look at it as a call of intuition, a chance to tune in and take action. However small it seems, this is the creation of a life in motion.

Everyday Healing Connections

As human beings, we are all transmitters and recipients of healing energy through compassion and intention, love, thoughts and prayers. It is seen in the simplicity of a much-needed hug to calm difficult emotions or situations, or the powerfully strong magic that can occur between lovers…it is mutual trust which regulates the degree a giver and receiver’s energetic channels open when compassion and intention creates a healing connection.

How Do You Program Your World?

We program our world everyday with the information we input. Think of it like going to google on your computer and putting in the words Reiki. What do you get, but a return of information on Reiki; a list of websites, articles, videos…you get options to follow through on what you have requested.

The same thing happens with the words we speak, and the thoughts we think. When you say ‘I am…”, you are programming your physical world, you are programing your body, you are making a request and it brings to you exactly what you are demanding.

Here’s a good experiment, for one hour, as your maneuver through your day, take a step back and witness the internal, or external, dialogue that you have with yourself. How many times do you say, I am…, and what is the quality of that statement? Is it powerfully upgrading or degrading, does it carry the power to lift you up, or to hold you back?

If you find, like most of us, you have a repertoire of non-empowering programing going on, look for words and thoughts to change it around.

instead of…

I am stupid…go with…I am confused
I am fat…go with…I am strong
I am ugly…go with…I am beautifully unique
I am not worthy…go with…I am amazing
I am sick…go with…I have a strong, healthy body
I have cancer…go with…my body is a cancer fighting machine
I can’t walk/run a mile…go with…I can walk/run around the block

Get the picture! Look at your words and your thoughts as prayers that you bring into your world…watch what you say and think, your body is listening!

The 1st Chakra

Holding SpaceThe first chakra, also known as the root chakra is located at the base of your spine. If you were to sit on the floor cross-legged, it would line up perfectly to root into the ground. And, as you can imagine, the energy it processes, is your ability to function in the physical world. This comes down to how you relate to society, your family or cultural group; how secure you feel maneuvering within the world and your own personal ability to survive. It oversees the base of your instinctual abilities and self-preservation.

Whenever there is an excess or deficiency of energy in any chakra, an imbalance is created. In the first chakra center, this can include emotional symptoms such as apathy, lethargy, lack of confidence, worry, anxiety, depression, selfishness, anger, hostility, aggression, greed and sexual inhibitions or perversions. Its negative influences include; fear of death, abandonment, humiliation and intimacy. When the imbalance is in place over long periods of time, the areas of emotional unrest begin to influence the physical body. When first chakra imbalances manifest into the physical body, it is found in the spine, the bones, the immune system, nervous system, blood, vagina, testes, rectum, lower limbs, legs and feet.

Working through the issues of the first chakra in order to keep it in balance means moving beyond worries of survival and physical preoccupation. There is a need to face, accept and release unresolved family issues, matters of overall health, security and trust. The positive attributes this chakra brings, includes internal strength, endurance, abundance, steadfastness and longevity. Bringing the first chakra into balance will bring about a relaxed attitude of life and a sense of well-being. This allows one to become more grounded and focused on your life’s direction and more comfortable to open up with others around you. It opens the door to emotional expression and welcomes growth through vulnerability and authenticity.

Showing Up

Holding SpaceShow up, Allow, Open and Get-out-of-the-way!

Someone asked the other day, what it is ‘exactly’ that I do, when giving a Reiki treatment. The answer that leaped from my mouth, without so much as a second thought was, I Show up.

Simple as that…I Show Up, I Allow, I Open; I get out-of-the-way and Hold space. Isn’t this what all of us do (or unfortunately, don’t do) when someone we know is in need, or in pain, or in conflict; or all the above?

Reiki is about showing up and making space for connection, for unfolding. It’s what we all have the option to do, on a daily basis, with the people who are in our lives. When we Show up as witness to events, or more importantly, as witness to emotions, to pain, to the very personal world that someone is experiencing…we allow that person room to feel, we allow them a chance to let down the walls, we allow them a place to bring their fears out in the open–without judgment, without explaining, without proving. It is within that space healing is created.

Reiki flows through all of us, we all have the ability to Show up, to extend healing energy…we all feel the calling to Allow, to Open and ultimately to Hold space. This, is the power of Reiki, it truly is within all of us.

It’s a 4 minute powerhouse that will feed your body and infuse you with the vital energy contained in fresh raw fruits and vegetables. To get the most nutritional and antioxidant benefit, a green smoothie should be consumed within hours of blending, so I’m not talking about the ones you buy at Trader Joe’s or Whole Foods, much less any other food chain out there selling pre-made, processed fruit drinks.

Basic Green Smoothie

  • 1 cup of Almond Milk
  • 1 handful of Spinach
  • 1/2 Banana
  • 1/2 Apple, coarsely cubed
  • 6-7 Grapes
  • 2-3 Ice Cubes

Blend the Almond Milk and Spinach until liquified. Add the fruit and ice, blend until smooth and creamy.

Once you get the basic down, experiment! Try Soy milk, Coconut Water, Rice Milk or plain Water. Trade the Spinach for Kale, Chard, Dandelion or any other green leafy vegetable. Add Strawberries, Figs, Mangos, Papaya, Kiwi. If you want to include a protein, add yogurt, Peanut Butter or protein powder….for flavor boosters add Coconut Flakes, Cocao powder, Nutmeg or Vanilla powder

Benefits of Reiki

As a practitioner of Reiki, I am often asked about the benefits one receives during and after a Reiki treatment. It is difficult to say exactly what one will experience as each session is different. But you can pretty much count on falling into a very meditative state. It pulls you deeply into your own consciousness, allowing one to connect with their own inner knowing. A Reiki treatment is like taking the freeway to your intuitive storehouse and finding answers.

I think the thing I hear the most when a client gets up from the table is, “Wow, I didn’t expect that”. Many experience colors, some experience dreamlike visions, all experience a sense of calm acceptance. Balance. Insight.
